About the Library

The Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial Institute of Nursing Library serves as a vital learning and research hub for nursing students and faculty. The library supports academic excellence by providing up-to-date print and digital resources essential for nursing education, clinical practice, and research. It aims to create a rich learning environment where students can develop critical thinking, evidence-based knowledge, and professional competencies needed in the healthcare field.
The Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial Institute of Nursing Library is automated with Koha Library Management Software, an advanced, open-source Integrated Library System (ILS) designed to manage all library operations efficiently. Koha enables smooth handling of cataloguing, circulation, member management, and online public access, making library services more effective and user-friendly.

Purpose and Role

The Library serves as the primary Information Resource Centre, identifying, acquiring, organizing, storing, and providing on-demand access to intellectual and research outputs of scholars and students.

Collections and Resources

The Library builds collections and provides access to information and services that support teaching, learning, research, and creative endeavours. It caters to the academic needs of nursing students, aligning with institutional planning and university curriculum. The Library also motivates and organizes students for self-learning through the use of both internet and library resources.

General Rules and Regulations for the Library

To ensure a pleasant, productive, and disciplined learning environment, all members are required to follow the library rules and regulations listed below:

Library Membership

  • Library membership is open to all students, faculty, and staff of the institution.
  • Members must carry their College ID card or Library card when entering the library or borrowing materials.
  • Membership is non-transferable. Members are responsible for all materials borrowed under their name.

Borrowing and Returning Books

  • Books may be borrowed only by registered members.
  • Each student may borrow two books at a time for a period of 10 days.
  • Books can be renewed once, if not reserved by another user.
  • A fine will be charged for late returns as per library policy.
  • In case of loss or damage to any library material, the borrower must replace the book or pay its current market value.

Library Conduct

  • Silence must be maintained inside the library at all times.
  • Mobile phones must be switched off or kept in silent mode.
  • Eating, drinking, and sleeping are strictly prohibited inside the library.
  • Users must not reserve seats for others or leave personal belongings unattended.
  • The library staff has the right to inspect bags or belongings at the entrance or exit if necessary.

Use of Library Materials

  • Books and journals should be handled with care. Do not mark, underline, or fold pages.
  • Reference books, journals, and rare materials are for library use only and cannot be issued.
  • Members are expected to return materials to the designated place after use.

Library Discipline

  • Library users are expected to maintain decorum, cleanliness, and discipline at all times.
  • Any form of misconduct or damage to property will result in disciplinary action and possible cancellation of library privileges.
  • The Librarian’s decision regarding the enforcement of library rules shall be final and binding.

Suggestions and Feedback

  • Users are encouraged to provide suggestions or feedback to improve library services.
  • A suggestion box is available near the library entrance or users can email their feedback to librarykapmiahs@gmail.com.

Library Timings

  • Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Saturday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Closed on Sundays and Government Holidays

Membership

  • Library membership is open to:
  • All students, faculty members, and research scholars of Kateel Ashok Pai Memorial Institute of Nursing Department
  • Registered external members (with permission from the Principal/Librarian)

  • Well-furnished and spacious reading hall with a calm and comfortable atmosphere.
  • Digital Library section with 7 computers and internet access.
  • Wi-Fi-enabled learning zone for online research.
  • Reference and research assistance by qualified library staff.
  • Photocopying, scanning, and printing services.
  • Library orientation programs for new entrants.

Digital Library

The Digital Library Section provides online access to:

  • E-journals, medical databases, and e-books in nursing.
  • Open access research materials and case studies.
  • The institution’s digital archive of publications, theses, and conference papers.
